I’m not gonna sit here and say how hard it is to be a haitian. As a matter of fact i’m gonna seek the nonsensicalness and embrace it for i am haitian american. My parents came to the states in there teenage years and worked hard. my dad is a hait ian radio host and my mother a nurse and they raised us as american as can be. My other siblings grew up to mostly american music and became american (although we were born here). Although we “adapted” alot of influnce rubbed off on us. For example, my grandmoms only speaks creole to us so there for we speak it. When our mom would cook it was a haitian plate, the way we dress and the way we act. I sort of take pride in that because why not rep the country you mom and dad come from just we were sterotyped a certain way?
But honestly there are some messed up things about it. Like when your younger and they would always dress you up in dresses that makes it look puffy with puffy shoulder pads, with dress socks with a frilly lace at the neck of the sock. They would put your hair in puff braids….. that’s how you know that is a child of a haitian. Some haitian women when it come to makeup would get it all wrong. They would put to much rouge, wear red lipstick and where foundation a shade or two lighter than themselves.
There is so much too say. but this will be continued………………………….
with detail.
Oh girl you hit the nail on the head. But its not just haitians its all ISLANDERS, whetether you trini, jamaican, haitian, cuban, YOUR PARENT DON’T KNOW HOW TO ACT !!
Stay trying you, smdh. But that dress thing, I feel you. PREACH SISTA PREACH !!
